A Message from the Principal

Principal’s Message

June 2020

Our school year has finally ended, and what a year it has been! The COVID-19 Pandemic, in many ways, turned our world upside down, and forced us to rethink how we live our everyday lives…especially our lives at school.

When we realized that school, as normal, would not be possible for the rest of the school year, the teachers quickly began planning ways to connect with their students, so that learning would continue. Whether by phone call, Facetime, Zoom gathering, Google Classroom, Flipgrid, or any number of other platforms, teachers and other school personnel maintained their connections with students and families. From Pre-K Circle Time to 3rd Grade Zoom Math Classes, to our 5th Grade Drive-By Salute and Celebration, CLES staff worked hard to reach out and make this strange school year a little less challenging.

I am so proud of our teachers and staff for thinking “outside the box” so that the students and their families would know that school support was always available. I am thankful for Mrs. Mullenax’s work to plan our neighborhood drive-by visit, which allowed us to see so many of our school families, as teachers and other staff members paraded through many of our school communities. Finally, I am so proud of our students and their families, for being determined to make the most out of a very crazy, challenging situation. Caring so much, enabled us to hold fast to our school mission of growing leaders, one child at a time.

As we live through this summer vacation, I encourage everyone, students and adults alike, to keep exercising your brains by reading every day. Read for information. Read to understand. Read for pleasure. Just keep reading. Keep your brain working, so that when school resumes, we will all be ready to begin with great gusto and excitement.

Enjoy your summer break. Do something nice for someone. Be thankful for the gifts you’ve been given. Stay safe, and above all…be kind!

See you next year!
