Welcome, everyone, to the 2020-2021 school year at Cheat Lake Elementary School. No one could have imagined that our year would begin as it has, but here we are, and we’re determined to make the best of our situation.
The enrollment of our school continues to move upward, and this year our classes look like this: 4 PK classes, 6 Kindergartens, 6 First Grades, 5 Second Grades, 5 Third Grades, 5 Fourth Grades and 5 Fifth Grades.
As this year began, parents had to select how their children would be educated, either following an altered in-person schedule, or virtually, or by a blended approach. Whatever the choice has been, it has brought with it stressors not generally present at the beginning of the year. Even so, the staff of CLES remains steadfast in supporting our students and families, as we take this learning journey together.
Cheat Lake Elementary School students and staff follow the work of Sean Covey, as described in his book titled, “The 7 Habits of Happy Kids”. This book explains, in terms children will understand, the work of his father, Stephen Covey, author of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”, and “The Leader in Me”.
Each day, our entire school family will focus on an important aspect of these 7 Habits:
Begin With the End in Mind
Put First Things First
Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
Sharpen the Saw
Like every year, you have received a packet of school forms which require your signature. Please read through them, sign them and return them to the school. Some grade levels are organizing drive-bys to collect work, etc., and the forms may be returned at that time. Feel free to mail them, or drop them off at the lower building office.
As we begin this new school year, know that we dedicate ourselves to providing a superior education to our students, in our quest to…Grow Leaders, One Child at a Time!
